CANEGROWERS is a not-for-profit public company providing a professional and cohesive voice for growers across all of Queensland's sugarcane regions. Find our offices here.
Regardless of your farm size, whether you're an individual grower, a family business, or corporate enterprise, we work for the best possible outcomes for your business and your industry. Our diversity is our strength, and we draw on this diversity as we set priorities to achieve our vision of a secure and profitable future.
Local grower members elect representatives from among their peers to director positions on CANEGROWERS district company boards. Each district board appoints representatives to the statewide Policy Council. The number of Policy Council representatives a district has is determined by the number of mill areas in the district, with one Policy Council representative appointed for each mill area (currently 19). Policy Council members then elect 8 directors to sit on the CANEGROWERS Queensland (QCGO) board.
Through these bodies, grower members determine CANEGROWERS policy, which is implemented by staff in our offices in Brisbane and across the state.
CANEGROWERS is actively involved in many organisations including the World Association of Beet and Cane Growers, the National Farmers' Federation, the Queensland Farmers' Federation, the Australian Farm Institute, and the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia, along with industry bodies like Sugar Research Australia, the Australian Cane Growers' Council, and the Australian Sugar Industry Alliance.
The senior management team is based in the Brisbane office which also provides accounting, communications and IT support to the district CANEGROWERS companies.
CANEGROWERS members are represented by elected directors in every sugarcane region of Queensland. Elections for the district company boards are held every three years and every CANEGROWERS member can nominate and vote.
Each grower-elected district board nominates representatives to sit on the 18-person Policy Council, which decides the overall strategic direction of CANEGROWERS. Policy Council members also elect the eight-member QCGO Board, which is responsible for corporate governance.
