 DSC 3586 EDIT

Working to ensure adequate, safe and reasonable road access for the industry's fleet of harvesters, haulouts, tractors and trucks.

CANEGROWERS members work under a range of gazetted notices and permits to move their oversize and over-mass agricultural vehicles on and over public roads in the cane growing regions of Queensland.

CANEGROWERS ensures this access is maintained as State and Federal governments review legislation and regulations.

CANEGROWERS campaigns for improved access to public roads for farming machinery and against any moves which may limit farming activity and viability with no benefit to public safety.

Key area of work:

Load restraint regulation
+ -

CANEGROWERS has established an industry task group to address load restraint regulation compliance following the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) taking over enforcement from the Department of Transport and Main Roads in April 2024.

In general NHVR will increase compliance activity for all heavy vehicles. This is not aimed specifically at the sugarcane industry. However if a cane haulage vehicle is spilling cane or there is an identified risk then there may be and need for compliance action.

CANEGROWERS, through this task group, is working with NHVR to identify key risks and priority areas and then provide education and support the development of technical solutions and advice to prevent spillage.

CANEGROWERS is also working with the NHVR and industry partners to ensure growers and harvesting contractors are fully informed of their obligations under the regulations and of the possible consequences of any breach.

Transport resources for growers

CANEGROWERS has developed a range of resources for members needing to move farm vehicles and equipment on public roads. Click here to find a handy checklist and decision-making tool along with district guides of critical and major roads.
